Thinking through can mean to dwell upon something for some time in one’s mind in an effort to find a solution to a conundrum. It describes a process of careful consideration of benefits and draw backs over time. Artists often think through materials, actions and processes, using these forces to mediate and externalise ideas and problem solving rather than contain our workings out solely in our imaginations. In this way, we literally work out our provisional judgements, errors and learning in the material and observable world. We share and sometimes make concrete our thought processes for all to see. This thinking through art makes visible both our vulnerable moments and our triumphs and makes thinking manifest.
